Viagra (Sildenafil Citrate)

VIAGRA is a prescription drug used to treat erection difficulties, such as erectile dysfunction (ED).

Has anyone died after taking Viagra?

Viagra is absolutely safe according to results of two new studies. However, men who suffer from coronary heart disease before using Viagra should consult with their doctor and undergo a necessary examination.

Although the data of new studies suggests that mortality and the number of heart attacks increases after taking Viagra, it is proved that the drug itself does not cause death. Men suffering from erectile dysfunction, often also have heart diseases. A number of these men may have a heart attack or death at any time, regardless of which drug they took. Sexual activity itself can also be a starting point for a heart attack.

Scientists have examined 1,473 cases of side effects of Viagra, occurred within one year and reported to FDA. Among these 522 were deaths, 200 people died in the course of myocardial infarction and 94 from cardiac arrest. However, these data does not fully reflect the picture. Doctors often do not indicate that patients suffered from heart diseases.

Scientists have concluded that the combined intake of Viagra and nitroglycerin leads to a sharp drop in blood pressure. Of the 90 patients treated with both Viagra and nitroglycerin, 2/3 died and 3/4 had a myocardial infarction. Most of the deaths occurred after administration of standard doses of Viagra. Death occurs during the first 6 hours after intake (the time that the drug is in the bloodstream).

Data of the second study suggest that the number of deaths and heart attacks among people taking Viagra is not more than expected in this age group.

Ultimately, studies have confirmed that Viagra is safe and effective if properly administered.
